Make embossed foil Christmas decorations "step by step"
Turn simple foil into sparkling ornaments! Whether you use shiny embossing foil or a recycled tomato purée tube, these little treasures add a magical handmade touch to your tree.
MATERIALS
✓ Aluminium embossing foil sheet
or a tomato purée tube, washed, cut open and flattened smooth with a wooden spoon
✓ A magazine or firm board to lean on
✓ A drawing tool such as: small ball-tipped stylus, ballpoint pen (empty), rounded end of a paintbrush
✓ Scissors
✓ String, wire or ribbon for hanging
✓ Tracing paper
✓ Pencil
Step by Step
1. Draw your festive motifs
On tracing paper, sketch simple motifs about 8 × 8 cm, think stars, trees, twinkly hearts, bells, snowflakes or anything merry.
Add patterns: zigzags, dots, swirls, tiny hearts….
2. Prepare your foil
Lay your foil on a magazine or board (If you’re using a tomato tube, smooth it flat first-it's surprisingly satisfying.
3. Transfer your design
Place your tracing paper on top of the foil.
Use your blunt-ended tool to trace firmly over your lines.
As you press, your design is embossed into the metal.
4. Trim and tidy
Cut out your shape with care.
5. Make a hanging hole
Add a little hole at the top with a blunt tool or the tip of your scissors.
6. Add the finishing sparkle
Thread a piece of ribbon, wire or string through the hole.
Tie a loop and - voilà! Your shimmering ornament is ready to hang where the lights can catch it.
